Opening Day

This year has been much different than last year as far as temperatures and precipitation. Last year at this time we were open and temperatures were in the 70's and 80's.  People were enjoying the outdoors and everyone was loving life.  This spring is much different, but in reality, it is more normal.  The average opening date for the course is as follows:
2012-March 16th
2011-April 1st
2010-March 23rd
2009-April 4th
2008-April 30th  (Late opening due to winter kill)
2007-March 27th
2006-April 1st
2005-April 6th
The forecast for the end of next week looks more favorable which will allow us to get the course cleaned up and move towards an opening date.

Spring thaw

We received 2" of rain last week on snow packed, frozen ground that resulted in some minor flooding.  The positive side of this is that we lost 80% of the snow cover.  The negative side is that flooding left some debris and the majority of the water ran off instead of replenishing the soil.

Winter work

It is hard to believe that we are into March already.  A year ago we were cleaning up the golf course and getting ready to open.  This year we have 15" of snow on the ground and a couple feet of frost.  March will bring some warmer temperatures that will melt the snow and lift the frost.

We have had a productive winter on the course.  The tree removal was a huge success, golf course supplies got refurbished, preventative maintenance to the equipment and golf carts and snow removal when needed.

We are ready for a move into spring.  Bring on the warm weather and lets get the season going.
